When Sarah is in college, Jareth knocks on her door on a Saturday night, and he's wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and he's carrying a hand-picked bouquet, and when he asks her out, she says yes, and if they vanish into his kingdom before they make it out of her dorm room, well, at least he's trying to be less stalker-ish.
