No. 93

Prompt: Criminal Minds, Penelope Garcia, spending her Saturday updating her works in progress and reading fics she's bookmarked.

Even though it was Saturday, Penelope checked in with her writing comm on Livejournal (Friday was check-in day) and said hi to her friends, read the snippets they posted, left some feedback. Then, because the deadline for the first draft of her SPN Big Bang was looming, she wrote. Cranked out about five thousand words before her hands hurt from too much typing and her muse needed a coffee break. So Penelope fixed herself a mug of coffee and curled up on the couch and hit up AO3. She'd bookmarked the latest Romancing McShep entries, because after an awful week of looking at autopsy photos of babies she needed some fluff, and she had to know if John and Rodney were finally going to get together after John had been angsting through their six weeks on Earth during this latest episode tag to The Return. When her coffee was finished, she refilled her mug and checked out the BBC Merlin Big Bang for its latest entries, so she bookmarked that. There was a promising story that looked like the Merlin version of SPN's The French Mistake. She moseyed over to the comment fic meme to see if anyone had filled her Ruby/Meg prompt, and no one had, but someone had posted an intriguing Black Widow + Sam Carter post-apocalyptic road trip fill, so she bookmarked that. And then, because she knew she was procrastinating, she pulled up her list of WIPs and wondered what else she should take a shot at. Hmm. The Internet could always use a little more Emma Swan + Regina Mills buddy cop fic. Penelope stretched her wrists, cracked her knuckles, and set to writing once more. This weekend was hers. Maybe she'd take another stab at that Uhura + Leia crossover after lunch. If Spencer still thought she didn't know he was her eager beta for that, she'd let him keep his illusions. They both needed something to get them through the week.

No. 56

Prompt: Gilmore Girls/Criminal Minds, Rory Gilmore + Spencer Reid and/or Jennifer Jareau, Rory gets the chance to interview one or two members of the BAU.

Rory wasn't sure what to expect from an FBI profiler, but Dr. Spencer Reid wasn't it. When he walked into the room, Rory looked him up and down, and lyrics from a song filled her mind. I wear your granddad's clothes/ I look incredible. He was tall and lanky with long-fingered, spidery hands and wispy hair that didn't look regulation. When Rory had read his quick-sketch bio, about his three doctorates and off-the-charts IQ, she'd imagined a tidy, tweedy man, bespectacled, severe. The nervous, coltish creature opposite her looked better suited to art and poetry than catching murderers.

The way he smiled sweetly when JJ Jareau, the BAU's media liaison, ducked in and asked if he wanted coffee, made Rory want to take him home to Sookie and have her cook him all his favorite food at once.

Down, girl, she told herself. He wasn't much older than her. She flipped back to his bio. Only three years. How had she missed that detail?

"So, Agent Reid," Rory began, then corrected herself, "I mean, Dr. Reid –"

"Please, call me Spencer." He sipped at his coffee with a gentle curve of his wrist.

"Spencer," she said. "Why did you decide to join the FBI?"

"My mother used to teach medieval literature," he said, "and she told me stories about brave knights who slew monsters. I wanted to be brave."

"And do you slay monsters?"

"All monsters are people inside," he said, and Rory wondered what he saw inside her.
